GET INVOLVED

Check out these ways in which volunteers can make significant contributions to its operation and service to the community. If you would be interested in learning more about any of these positions, contact the Historical Society office at 412-329-8595 or at info@lebohistory.org.

Join our Board

The Historical Society of Mount Lebanon is not all about the past. We know that history can inspire the present and shape our future. We’re looking for talented people to join our Board of Directors to help advance the mission and work of the HSMTL for the benefit of our whole community. Nominate yourself, or other potential leaders. With your help, our board can engage the residents of Mount Lebanon with its history in creative and exciting ways.

The Job

The Commitment

The Benefits

The Board of Directors meets every other month virtually or in-person (when possible) to plan exhibits and events, discuss community outreach, and strategize the future. We’re a diverse and creative group who work well together and enjoy sharing the fascinating history of our community with others.

The HSMTL is powered entirely by volunteers. Our Board Members represent the HSMTL to the community and are its face at public events. Board Members commit to a three-year term, serve on at least one standing committee, and offer their expertise, networks and resources to help support HSMTL’s mission.

You’ll make a contribution to our community, connect with others who live and work here, and enjoy bringing our history to life in a way that inspires others.

Join as a Volunteer

Not ready for a full Board Commitment? If you can’t commit to the Board, please join us as a volunteer. We have a number of committees and activities that could use your talents and leadership!

Be a Docent

Consider volunteering as a docent – helping visitors to the History Center. Docent shifts are 3 hours long and normally two people are scheduled. The work includes greeting visitors, introducing the current exhibit, handling questions (you need not be an expert on Mt. Lebanon history), and occasionally selling something from the Gift Shop. Training is provided and help is always available. A fringe benefit is hearing the stories of the visitors who often educate us about the History of Mount Lebanon. There are other opportunities too: working with our committees: Collections and Exhibits, Social Media, Annual Event, and more.

Please consider this opportunity. If you have an interest, please respond by email (info@lebohistory.org) or phone (412-329-8595). Thanks!
